Wildlife Events, Guided Walks and Talks. Monday 21st December - Santa’s Lakeside Grotto at Rufford Mill Every child will be captivated by this unforgettable ride through the magic forest to visit Father Christmas. We invite you to be delighted by the wonder of Christmas with your little ones by hopping aboard our magic sleigh. Without even leaving the park your child will be magically transported to the enchantment of Santa’s Grotto. Each child will meet Father Christmas and receive a gift suitable for their age. Please note: Santa has a lot to do at this time of year so please arrive early to avoid disappointment. The magic sleigh ride is a virtual ride suitable for all children. Each child must be accompanied by an adult on the sleigh ride. £5 per child (includes a ride on the magic sleigh and gift) and £2 for each accompanying adult. 11am – 4.30pm.

Monday 21st December - Winter Solstice Sweat Lodge Beneath a covered dome of willow rods at Bestwood Country Park, hot volcanic stones are dowsed with water and herbs, creating a therapeutic steam that cleanses both body and mind. Tuesday 22nd December - Christmas Crafts for Children Come along and join us at the Idle Valley Rural Learning Centre to make some presents for Christmas including bird feeders. £1.50 per child. Contact: The Membership Team of Notts Wildlife Trust on 0115 958 8242.

Saturday 26th December – Boxing Day Lunch in the Saville Restaurant Let us do the hard work for you this Boxing Day. Book early for our lunchtime 3-course, waitress served meal. The Saville Restaurant is based in Rufford Abbey’s beautiful country park location. Why not make a day of your visit with a woodland walk, a stroll around our lake or indulge in some retail therapy at our Craft Centre, Outdoor Living Store, Lakeside Garden Centre or gift shop. £30.00 per person (children £15.00). Saturday 26th December - Boxing Day Revival Walk If your head’s a bit fuzzy or you think you may have overdone the excesses of the festive period, this is your chance to breathe in some fresh air and get your legs working again!  Adults £2, children £1. Saturday 26th December - Boxing Day Walk A chance to walk off those Christmas calories and blow away those festive cobwebs. What better way to raise the spirits than with fresh air, the company of friends and a ranger to guide you through the winter landscape on this 2-3 mile walk. Meet at the Winding Engine House car park, Bestwood Village. Contact Bestwood Country Park on 0115 927 3674. 10am – 12noon.

Saturday 26th December – Yuletide Treasure Trail Enjoy some of the forest’s midwinter magic on this self-guided weekend trail around the Major Oak path, with a small ‘sweet’ reward for all those who complete the clues! £1 per leaflet. For further details or bookings call Sherwood Forest National Nature Reserve on 01623 821322. 11am – 3pm each day.

Tuesday 29th December - Tinsel Trek Join Warden Roy Turner for a walk (approx 2 hrs) around Clumber Park and burn off those Christmas calories. Normal admission charges apply. Booking not necessary, for more information call Clumber Park on 01909 544917. Meet at the main car park. 10am – 12pm.

Wednesday 30th December - Pushabout Clumber Part of an initiative promoting walking for health and supported by Bassetlaw Primary Care Trust and Bassetlaw District Council. About 2 miles in length over terrain suitable for buggies. Normal admission charges apply for your first Pushabout, a free vehicle entry pass will then be provided to allow access for participation on further walks. Normal admission charges apply. Booking not necessary, for more information call Clumber Park on 01909 544917. Turn up in suitable clothing with a drink for this walk. Start from the Clock Tower area. 10am – 11.30am.

Saturday 2nd January - Health Walk Walking is a great way to keep fit. Join us at Attenborough for a 45 minute breeze around the reserve. Suitable for beginners, but no dogs please. Contact: Attenborough Nature Centre 0115 972 1777. Meet 10am at Attenborough Nature Centre.

Sunday 3rd January - Walkabout Clumber In partnership with Bassetlaw District Council and Bassetlaw Primary Care Trust, Clumber offers 1, 2, 3, 5 and 8 mile walks as part of the healthy walks initiative. Normal admission charges apply for your first Walkabout, a free vehicle entry pass will then be provided to allow access for participation on further walks. Walks vary in time length from 1 hour up to 2 hours. Dogs on leads welcome. Walks start at the Conservation Centre. Wheelchair routes are available. Turn up in suitable clothing and with a drink for this walk. Normal admission charges apply, booking not necessary. Contact: Clumber Park on 01909 476592. 10.30am - 12.30am.

Sunday 3rd January - Attenborough Nature Walk Come along for a guided walk around the wildlife sanctuary of Attenborough Nature Reserve. No booking needed, but no dogs please. Contact: Attenborough Nature Centre 0115 972 1777. Meet 10.30am at Attenborough Nature Centre. Thursday 7th January - The Wonders of Wilwell Nature Reserve Join the South Notts Local Group for this fascinating presentation showing the flora and fauna to be found on this important Wildlife Trust nature reserve and given by the reserve manager, Gordon Dyne. Saturday 9th January - Winter Bird Walk Join us for a walk around Attenborough Nature Reserve and find out more about the wonderful birds that are around during the winter, followed by some delicious home-made soup. £10 per person including soup. Booking essential. Contact: Attenborough Nature Centre 0115 972 1777. Meet 10.30 am at Attenborough Nature Centre.
